Top 5 Senior Health Plan Questions Asked

When you’re looking at senior health plans, it can feel like you’re trying to navigate a maze without a map. As an agent, I see my job as more than just "selling a policy"—it’s about being your guide and making sure you feel confident in your choices.
I’ve spent a lot of time at kitchen tables and in coffee shops listening to what’s on your mind. Here are the top 5 questions I get asked most often, and exactly what I tell my clients.
1. "Will I have to find a new doctor?"
This is usually the very first thing people ask me. We all have those doctors we’ve trusted for years, and the thought of losing them is stressful.
My Answer: This is why I always start our meeting by asking for a list of your providers. Some senior health plans use specific networks. I’ll run a search right then and there to see which plans keep your favorite specialists "in-network" so your care remains seamless.
2. "What’s the deal with my prescription costs for 2026?"
There is a lot of buzz about the new changes this year, and for good reason!
My Answer: I have some great news for you. For 2026, there is a new $2,100 out-of-pocket cap on covered prescription drugs. Once you hit that limit at the pharmacy, your covered meds are $0 for the rest of the year. During our consultation, I’ll look at your specific medications to make sure we find a plan that maximizes these new savings for you.
3. "Advantage or Supplement? Which one would you choose?"
This is a personal choice, and I always explain it as a matter of "budget vs. predictability."
My Answer: Senior health plans (Advantage) often have lower monthly premiums but you pay as you go through copays. Supplemental plans usually have a higher monthly cost, but they "fill the gaps" so you have very little to no surprise costs when you see a doctor. I’ll help you weigh your monthly budget against your expected medical needs to see which fits better.
4. "Can you explain the 'Parts' one more time?"
We’ve done a deep dive on this in a [previous post], but I always give my clients this "cheat sheet" refresh:
Part A: Think "The Building" (Hospital stays).
Part B: Think "The People" (Doctors and outpatient care).
Part C: This is a private senior health plan that rolls A, B, and usually D together into one neat package.
Part D: Your pharmacy coverage.
5. "If I sign up now, am I stuck with this plan forever?"
Life changes, and I want you to know that your coverage can sometimes change with it.
My Answer: Not necessarily! Every situation varies. While many plans are meant for the full year, there are many life events or specific circumstances that might allow us to adjust your coverage. If you’re ever feeling like your plan isn't working, contact me to see what your options are. I’m here to help, even long after you’ve signed up.
